due diligence

Coming from Home Improvement, I will add to be leary of Catio companies out there who market to all 50 states. These out of state companies hire local sub-contractors, usually never having worked with them before and who have never built a Catio. If you go this route, do your due diligence. It's common in the sub world for the business to blame the builder or the builder to blame the business when something goes wrong. I've also seen subs not complete jobs all together. Finally, do they even LOVE cats? LOL

While working my previous job and starting up Cat Sass in the background, I went to a home in Green Bay for some home improvements. He had mentioned that he originally called us to screen in his deck, which we didn't do, but still had me out for other things. Knowing what I was working on, I asked what his plan for the deck was. He took me to a 12x15 wood deck that he just wanted screened in with a roof and door. He then told me his cheapest quote was $45,000 and showed me the plan they had for that work. I was in utter shock. Not at just the price but at what he was getting for that amount. Here I am working on structures for cats, using better materials, doing a better build, at a better look, and a literal fraction of the price. He then asked if I would do it for him when I was up and running. My response? "Sorry, you're missing a couple of legs and a tail. I'll only work for cats." We had a chuckle.
