HOW IS CAT SASS DIFFERENT FROM ONLINE AND DIY CATIOS?

We build structures that last and that are a compliment to your home's space and yard, using legit building practices and materials.  They are safe, sturdy, stylish, and sanitary.  If you are looking for an inexpensive and disposable online or DIY option, a Cat Sass Catio isn't for you.  We are not glorified chicken coops or animal pens and we're proud of that. I will only build at the high standards for you and your cats that I did for myself and my own.

do i need a permit?

The first step is to check with your municipality to make sure that what you want is doable.  Different sizes and types have different requirements and regulations.

  • ATTACHED CATIOS.  Catios attached to the house are considered an addition to the home and will require a general contractor and are much more in-depth and costly.
  • DETACHED CATIOS. Catios set away from the house are usually considered a "shed" or "accessory building" and have rules and permits of their own.  Size, build features, and placement play a factor.  This is our preferred method of build.
  • WINDOW ONLY UNITS.  Smaller, temporary window units, or "boxes" that are not "attached" to the home are the easiest in terms of regulations but are also the smallest.

Things to consider and check on:

  • DIMENSIONS.  What is allowed in your yard based on the following:
  • Will it have an ENTRY DOOR?  For access and use, the answer for most builds is yes.
  • ROOF TYPE (slope and style).  Our options are slope and gable.
  • YARD PLACEMENT:  Side yard, rear yard, and setback requirements.
  • FOOTINGS & FOUNDATION:  Will it need concrete, gravel, footings, anchoring, etc.
  • FIRE RATED:  What is the municipality's requirement in terms of a fire-rated structure?

Once you find out what option is best for you, we can start discussing your project.  As the homeowner, you are responsible for obtaining the proper permit(s).

is my catio customizable?

To the extent that you can choose your style and interior/exterior options, and our accessories, yes.  However, the materials and type of build we do is not changeable.  You may see Catios online and want them duplicated in your yard.  But, things like weather and climate, affordability, durability, and materials are the biggest factors.  We only build what we know works in Wisconsin.  If you'd like to further customize your Catio with options we may not currently offer, you are welcome to do so.

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?

We service all of Wisconsin and are based in Omro, WI (Winnebago County). Further distances may add a little time to your build and we may charge a small travel fee, but we're fair about it. Much of the process can be done over phone, text, email, or video chat.  We do invite everyone to visit to our shop and meet with us.  It's always worth it to make the trip to us as your Catio is a long-term asset and it's fun to go over everything together in person.  If you want us to bring the FURRARI to you, we do charge a fee depending on distance but that fee is applied to your Catio price if you make a purchase.

WILL THE CATIO HOLD UP IN RAIN AND SNOW?

You know it.  The only good Wisconsin Catio is a Catio that holds up in Wisconsin. From the roof down to the floor, our Catios are built specifically for the state we call home.

CAN MY CAT(s) LIVE IN THE CATIO?

Absolutely not.  Catios are enrichment spaces, not living spaces.  If you are looking for an alternative spot to house your cat(s), we are not the company for you.

CAN I ENJOY THE CATIO WITH MY CAT? CAN MY DOG?

Please do!  Cat Sass Catios came into existence was to give owners a Catio they could also spend time in and enjoy with their cats.  We design our Catios and chose materials specifically for cats as the #1 focus and people a close 2nd.  If you'd also like your dog to have access to the space, we have ways we can make your Catio dog-friendly and accessible as well!

HOW LONG IS THE PROCESS?

Plan on about 4-8 weeks from beginning to end.  This timeframe includes planning, building, and installation.  Certain cities and towns that require permits may add a little time if they take a bit to approve things. Smaller projects can take even less time.

IS CAT SASS CATIOS LLC INSURED?

Yes!  We are a registered LLC and fully insured in Wisconsin. We use a legally binding contract written by our attorney that we specifically asked protects you as much as it does Cat Sass. I wanted a contract that I would  feel comfortable signing if I was purchasing a Catio.

IS THERE A WARRANTY?

Yes.  We have a one year warranty on structural materials and workmanship.  We do not cover normal wear and tear, natural disasters, improper use, accidental damage, or accessories.

WHAT IS THE PAYMENT PROCESS?

50% down when you sign your contract, the remaining 50% is due the day of installation.

HOW MUCH DOES A CUSTOM BUILT CATIO COST?

See the CATIO COST page under OUR CATIOS at the top of the website.  Cost is dependent on many factors such as size and model.  We can say that if you look up the cost of a "custom built catio," we are far less than what's out there in other states. And, we have a product much more suited to Wisconsin, looks better, and is also designed & built with cat guardians and the aesthetic of their yard in mind.
